My favorite green smoothie recipe

So sometimes I find myself either really dehydrated or I'm just like "wow I've been eating like absolute shit lately", so my most recent fix for this issue is a big green smoothie. I know, usually they tastes like chalky ground up grass with a hint of banana... but I swear this one's good!

I usually will have it for breakfast or in between meals if I need a pick me up. It's super easy to take on the go or just to sip on while you're getting ready in the morning.

One of the biggest game changers in this recipe is my Vitamix blender. Without this thing, my smoothie would probably be lumpy and have an awful texture. These blenders are amazing for other things too, so I highly recommend.

I start off with adding water to the bottom of the blender- this way it blends easier. Then I add my greens. Typically I choose spinach, because it has a mild taste and is so high in antioxidants and vitamins (which we all know). So I add a handful of greens, following by one ripe banana and about 3 dates. These will add some sweetness to the smoothie and help cover up any "healthy" taste from the spinach.

Now the game changer... frozen mango! I swear, something about mango just perfectly covers the taste of any greens you put in a smoothie! so I add about a half a cup of frozen mango to the blender.

(For the record I don't really measure anything while doing this, so these are my best estimates)

Next I add in about 1-2 tables spoons of ground flaxseed and chia seeds for added fiber and nutrients without adding any bad tastes to the smoothie. Finally, I add in a spoonful (maybe a teaspoon?) of spirulina powder. You can read about the benefits of spirulina here, but it makes your smoothie super dark and full of healthy things I could never actually explain to you myself.

After that, I blend away and serve in the cutest mason jar I can find. Happy sipping!
